Rainer Flaig, whose background is in the industrial field, was awarded a degree in mechanical engineering from Zurich University of Applied Sciences. He also has a degree in industrial engineering from the Institut für Management in Zurich and an Executive MBA in general management from the University of St. Gallen.

Flaig was drawn to the cableways early on. Following positions at Pilatus Bergbahnen, Lenzerheide Bergbahnen, and Saastal Bergbahnen, he landed at Andermatt-Sedrun Sport AG. During his 25 years of work for cableways companies, he has carried out a number of mergers in the cableways sector, where he stood out for his analytical process and efficiency thinking.

Flaig also helped form the NGO Arboles y futuro – Trees for the Future, a non-profit association that supports activities in the area of forests, environment, and education in South America's Andes by deploying experts on location.

In his free time, Flaig enjoys sampling diverse cuisines, loves slow travelling, and likes practising sports.
