Andermatt starts winter season on October 31. Lift tickets can be booked online in advance.

October 22, 2020

On Andermatt's flagship mountain, the Gemsstock, the winter season begins in one week on October 31.

In the first phase, skiing will be possible on the sunny slope; the other lifts and slopes including the valley run will be successively opened. SkiArena Andermatt-Sedrun and all the other companies of the Andermatt Swiss Alps Group are implementing a number of measures to ensure the safety of guests. Rides on the gondola cableway from the Gemsstock valley station can be booked online in advance.

The Gemsstock will be open on weekends through November 22, and daily from November 28. The lifts between Andermatt and Sedrun (Nätschen-Gütsch-Schneehüenerstock-Sedrun) as well as at Disentis will be open on the weekends of December 5/6 and 12/13. The ski areas will then be open daily from December 19 through April 11. SkiArena Andermatt-Sedrun has implemented numerous measures to ensure that guests can reach the ski area quickly and safely. These include the following changes (as at 23 October 2020):

  • On weekends and during the high season, lifts will open already at 8 a.m.

  • Departure times for rides on the Gemsstock gondola cableway can be reserved through the site www.andermatt-sedrun-disentis.ch

  • The capacity of the Andermatt-Nätschen-Gütsch gondola cableway has been increased by 20 percent.

  • The mountain restaurants in SkiArena Andermatt-Sedrun now offer 50 percent more outdoor seating. The seats are furnished with warm blankets.

  • Contact tracing is obligatory in all restaurants.

Other measures are being taken to help minimise crowding: Parking fees can be paid via SEPP app, and ski tickets can be purchased with contactless payment via the web shop. In the Prime Line, annual-pass holders and guests of the hotels of the Andermatt Swiss Alps Group get into the mountains via the Gütsch-Express even faster.

With the purchase of a half-price subscription for 41 francs, guests can continue to buy all day tickets at half price from 19 December. Holders of an annual pass will be reimbursed 100% of the purchase price should winter operations not be able to commence on 12 December due to measures imposed by the authorities to combat the coronavirus.

The entire Andermatt Swiss Alps Group – including SkiArena Andermatt-Sedrun, The Chedi Andermatt and Radisson Blu Reussen hotels, Andermatt Alpine Apartments and numerous restaurants – is doing everything in its power to ensure the safety of its guests and staff. All employees have been sensitised and trained.

The Andermatt Swiss Alps is in regular contact with the cantonal authorities for this purpose and will adapt the protective measures flexibly if necessary and depending on the situation.

Stay safe and have fun – together for a safe and wonderful winter experience!

Safety has always been a prime concern of ski resorts. This winter, "Safety First" will apply more than ever.
