Andermatt Responsible: commitment to sustainable tourism

April 5, 2020

Outdoor sports are our passion and our business.

We’re keenly aware that we need to protect and maintain our local surroundings and the environment. With the Andermatt Responsible campaign, Andermatt Swiss Alps is committing as a company to investing in and creating climate-friendly solutions and delivering sustainable tourism.

Andermatt Responsible is the campaign for sustainable tourism in the Andermatt region. It is intended to help implement projects in the fields of sustainability and climate protection, to liaise and work with the partners involved, and to inform guests, the population and service providers about the subject to raise their awareness of sustainable tourism. We are investing in this campaign as we believe that it is in the interest of all of us, as a community, to protect the Swiss mountains. Our goal is to reduce CO2 emissions from tourism operations and to make tourism as sustainable as possible.

Anchored locally

Andermatt Responsible consists of major organisations from the Andermatt region and the surrounding areas. These include Andermatt Swiss Alps AG, the Andermatt+Sedrun+Disentis ski region and the NGO Protect Our Winters Switzerland (POW). Andermatt Swiss Alps operates Andermatt Reuss, The Chedi Andermatt and Radisson Blu Reussen hotels, as well as the SkiArena Andermatt-Sedrun. The SkiArena Andermatt-Sedrun and POW Switzerland have been implementing environmental and climate protection measures through an exclusive partnership since the winter of 2018/19, for which POW received the 2019 CIPRA Prize.

Save resources

In order to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, it is important that we as an organisation use resources carefully. Therefore, we’ve made efforts to use renewable energy sources where possible, with the result that the entire ski region and hotels in the Andermatt Swiss Alps project are completely powered by renewable hydropower and wind sources located in the Gotthard region. In addition, we do not use plastic bottles in any of our Mountain Food brand restaurants. All of these restaurants also provide still and sparking water, fresh from the mountains, free of charge.

Further examples of the environmental and climate protection measures we’ve taken in the Andermatt region can be found on the Andermatt Responsible website.
