Andermatt Music Autumn Festival has begun. First highlight with pianist Gabriela Montero

October 23, 2019

The first Andermatt Music Autumn Festival opened on Thursday evening with a solo performance by Venezuelan pianist Gabriela Montero.

The Autumn Festival, held in Andermatt Concert Hall, has been organised in collaboration with the Lucerne Festival and will last until Saturday.

Following the inaugural concert with the Berliner Philharmoniker, the new Andermatt Concert Hall is now hosting a festival for the first time. Thanks to a long-standing partnership, this opening festival by Andermatt Music is being held in collaboration with the Lucerne Festival. Pianist Gabriela Montero opened the Andermatt Music Autumn Festival on Thursday with works by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Ludwig van Beethoven and Johannes Brahms as well as various inspiring interpretations. The guests experienced an initial highlight within the intimate atmosphere of this unique work of architecture.

On Friday, guest pianist Benjamin Grosvenor will deliver a performance in Andermatt with soloists from the Lucerne Festival Orchestra. The musicians will present piano quartets by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Gustav Mahler and Johannes Brahms. On Saturday, the Chamber Orchestra of Europe, conducted by Daniel Harding, will deliver the final concert of the first Autumn Festival. The programme includes Antonín Dvořák’s "Slavonic Dances", op. 72, and Symphony No. 2 in D Major by Johannes Brahms.

Tickets are still available for all the concerts. The ticket price includes refreshments during the breaks. Guests can also take advantage of reduced room rates at the Radisson Blu Hotel Reussen in Andermatt for the nights of the event.

Andermatt Concert Hall is a world-class forum for music with which the Swiss holiday destination of Andermatt is becoming established as a significant cultural centre. The Winter Festival will begin on 15 January 2020 with a four-day programme opening with pianist Daniel Barenboim. Further concerts will take place monthly at various venues in Andermatt as part of the Young Artist Concert Series.

The Concert Hall programme has been put together by Andermatt Music, a new project led by a trio of young British producers. Maximilian Fane, Roger Granville and Frankie Parham are the founders of The New Generation Festival, an organisation that supports talented young musicians from around the world. They are presented throughout the year at events in various countries and also perform at the festival of the same name which takes place annually in Florence, Italy. ,
