Hiking

The perfect hiking region

The Andermatt region offers excellent hiking opportunities. Trails at all levels of difficulty lead through secluded valleys and past cosy alpine huts, ice-cold mountain lakes, and impressive waterfalls. And of course to peaks with 360-degree views.

Furka Höhenweg

Enjoy a spectacular hiking experience on the lofty Furka Höhenweg. It is divided into two stages and starts in Valais. So why not journey to Andermatt on foot, like in days of yore?

Day 1

From Oberwald in the canton of Valais, the trail follows the headwaters of the Rhône river toward the Furka Pass. Along the way, you’ll be presented with sensational views of the Rhône Glacier, the Lauteraarhorn and Finsteraarhorn peaks, and the entire Goms region. The historic Furka rail line also crosses over the pass. If you're lucky, you’ll see one of the old-time steam trains that still travel this route today. Near the top of the pass, you’ll find a variety of lodging options.

Day 2

On the second day, you’ll first keep hiking at altitude. The trail lies high above the Ursern Valley, following the rugged southeastern slopes. You’ll pass by small lakes, alpine flowers, and mountain streams, all the while enjoying impressive views down toward Realp and Hospental, as well as of the pass road and the historic Furka steam train. You can find all information about the Furka Höhenweg on the website of Schweiz Mobil.
