On two wheels

The bicycle is the ideal means of transportation for discovering the Andermatt region. Eight passes in the immediate vicinity offer the ultimate racing cycle challenge, various cycling paths are perfect for excursions on electric bikes, and trails and routes rich in variety provide bike tours with excellent panoramas.

For racing cyclists, Andermatt is the ideal starting point for tours and training rides. Starting from the village in the heart of the Swiss Alps, the Gotthard, Furka, Oberalp, Susten, Grimsel, Nufenen, Lukmanier, and Klausen passes can be reached by bike. Along the way, you’ll enjoy a wide range of landscapes with rugged rock formations, colourful mountain meadows, and shady woods – and all set against an impressive mountain panorama. Once a year, Andermatt is host to the Alpenbrevet, Europe's highest cycle tour. This remarkable contest has no rankings, because the only winner is you. You choose the route and experience an unforgettable cycling adventure in the Alps.

Over hill and dale by mountain bike

Andermatt is also the ideal place for mountain biking. Several national bike routes lead through the village, such as the Alpine bike route and the Gottardo bike route. You can find ideas for tours starting in Andermatt on the cycling map of Andermatt Ursern Valley Tourism or on the website of Switzerland Mobility. A great route for discovering the region is the Ursern Höhenweg: a single-trail route 26 kilometres in length that is also very well suited for e-mountain bikes.

Andermatt is just the place for those who aim high. The many bike trails and alpine passes leave nothing to be desired.

Bike track in Andermatt

Not yet ready to try the single trails? In summer, the Andermatt Reuss playground has a practice trail for mountain bikes. On the round track with various obstacles, you can improve your skills so that you’ll soon be able to tackle the challenging routes.

Explore Andermatt on two wheels. With the e-fatbikes from Imholz Sport Piazza Gottardo you can safely tour the region – comfortably motor-assisted if you choose.

Bike transport Andermatt-Gütsch

If you prefer not to pedal up the first ascent, the Gütsch Express gondola will transport your bike up to the Gütsch mountain station. From there, you can bike along the old military road back to the valley with a view of the entire Ursern Valley.

Infrastructure for leisure, mountain, and e-bikes

At the Andermatt Reuss car park, you’ll find a wash station and service centre for bikes. For e-bikes, there’s a charging station in Piazza Gottardo in Andermatt Reuss. You’ll find other charging stations on all longer bike routes in the canton of Uri. And if you need spare parts, a rental bike, bike guides, or even a new bicycle: At Bikewelt Gisler at the Imholz Sportshop in Piazza Gottardo, you’ll be in good hands.
